Heart Jewelry Report

Christmas is right around the bend, and St. Valentine’s Day will soon be here. Have you given any thought to what you will be giving those loved ones on your gift giving list? Since the appearance of man (and women) on the world scene, jewelry has been designed and developed to give to those they love. The first recorded history of jewelry we have is in Africa, where ostrich eggs were often used to make beautiful pieces of art. When jewelry development migrated up to the Mediterranean area, jewelry was often used to cast off the “evil eye”. It was  believed that a person could cast a spell on you by giving you the “evil eye”, and jewelry could be used to safeguard you from it.

When the USA emerged from WW2 jewelry production exploded. Different craftsmen explored different materials and designs, but the old “stand bys” are often still the favorites. Forms of heart jewelry that are currently being developed are: crystal, diamond, desert, double-heart, glass, god’s, half-heart, gold, open, pink, silver, ruby, sterling silver and white gold. Quite the variety don’t you think?
