Tips On How To Deal With Emotional Eating

Emotional eating is one of the top reasons why many people are overweight. Food is seen as a means of comfort for people when they are feeling stressed, sad, lonely or even bored. Even though after turning to food, and having ate a lot, instead of feeling better, they are left with a feeling of shame or guilt. If you seem to have this similar problem, then here some things that may help you cope with it.

The best thing that you can do is find a friend or loved one whom you can trust and talk to. This will help you talk about your emotions and also help you deal with them. Usually all it takes for a person to feel better, is to let those feelings out. The best way one can do that is by talking them out. If you do not have someone to talk to, you can also write in a journal. This also allows you to express everything you are feeling, even if it is on paper.

One thing you want to make into a routine is to eat at the kitchen table. This should be done for both, your meals and your snacks. Avoid sitting on your bed or couch watching television while you eat. Watching television while you eat, will cause you to overeat, despite your body telling you that it is full.

You should also eat the food slowly. If you eat your food fast, then you will not give the body the necessary time to alert you it is full. You will eat past the point of being full. If you chew your food slowly, then you will enjoy your food more. It will also allow your body to let you know with time that it is satisfied, and needs no more food.

You must first begin to identify if what you are feeling is a physical or emotional hunger. You must not avoid eating food altogether. You still have to eat food to stay healthy, however the key is not to overdo it.

These are some things that can help you curb emotional eating. It is important that you get to the bottom of your emotions. Realize what is causing you to stress, or feel other negative feelings. First figure out if it’s your partner, a child, work, or something else. Then try to find new things to deal with the situation, other than turning to food.
