How can we get a good, fun vacation but still see the in-laws frequently?

annie78 asked:

My in-laws live 2,000 miles from us, but I still want our children to have a good relationship with them. Ideally I would like to see them once a year, but they don’t come visit us (they own a ranch, but also just don’t have the desire to travel to see us, although they love it when we visit them). Basically, I’m sick of using our yearly “big” vacation to go to Texas. I feel bad choosing to go to Hawaii over their home, should I? Is there any other way to compromise? Is every 2 years frequent enough? By the way, my husband is totally fine with only seeing them every 2 years…

Go to Hawaii. It is not your problem if they don’t want to get off their lazy ***** to make an effort to see you at least once. You’ll regret it otherwise.

Do not feel guilty. Relationships are a two way street and they want you do put in all the effort. You should be able to take a vacation that your family wants and not just have to visit family. When they realize that you are serious they might put in some effort. If not, do not feel guilty, the don’t.
